Dress for Success to debut mobile boutiques at the Pittsburgh Business Show

PITTSBURGH The Pittsburgh Business Show is excited to announce that Dress for Success will be debuting their new mobile boutique at the Show May 14 & 15 at the David. L Lawrence Convention Center.

Dress for Success Pittsburgh is a 501C3 non-profit and is one of 29 Dress for Success affiliates in Pennsylvania, with locations in Allegheny, Greene, Butler, Fayette, and Washington Counties. “Our mission is focused around clothing connection and confidence and how we work to empower women who are entering or reentering the workforce,” said Tanya Mallory, Chief Executive Officer of Dress for Success Pittsburgh.Dress for Success to debut mobile boutiques at the Pittsburgh Business Show

Mallory said there are a lot of women who need support when they are going back into the workforce or entering the workforce for the first time. “Last year we increased our client service delivery number by 35% percent. We were proud to have served over 3504 women in 2018,” Mallory said.

This organization provides women anything they may need for job interviews. This includes clothing, shoes, personal care items as well as professional accessories. Once the woman gets a job, she can return to Dress for Success and choose three more outfits.

Dress for Success Pittsburgh works to help women feel confident, and Mallory said although they are most known for providing clothing, they also provide other services such as virtual resume services as well as salon services.

“The clothing is the essential foundation of what they need to showcase their skills and talents in the workplace. Our ultimate goal is that every woman who comes to see us feels more confident when they leave than they did when they arrived,” Mallory said

Mallory said they work with a variety of wonderful nonprofits in the counties they serve and collaborate with them by helping the women they serve to connect with the other nonprofits.

Mallory said she met Linda Jo Thornberg, President of the Pittsburgh Business Show at the Win-Pittsburgh event, a women’s networking event organized by the Women’s Interactive Network. Thornberg and Mallory talked after Thornberg’s presentation Mallory said Thornberg was excited to learn how she could help, which lead to the decision to debut the new mobile boutique for Dress for Success at the Show.

“Many of the women we support struggle with access to adequate transportation. We are really focused are meeting the women where they are,” Mallory said. They had 37 mobile events last year, serving 600 women out of the trunks of their cars.

Mallory said they had wonderful support from the community foundations of Fayette, Washington, and Greene Counties as well as corporate sponsors such as Accenture for the mobile boutiques. Mallory said Superior Custom Designs is currently customizing the mobile boutiques.

For the North Mobile Boutique, serving Allegheny and Butler, their Premier Sponsors are Macy’s and ADT. Their Empowerment Sponsors for the South Mobile Boutique, serving Washington, Greene, and Fayette, are Range Resources and Chevron.

Mallory said at the Show they will not be taking clothing donations. “We will have a donation board up where people can choose to select something off the board they want to support,” Mallory said.

At the Show, they have the opportunity to show off the mobile boutique and bring recognition to an audience that may not normally see their services, Mallory said. She said at the Show they will also be able to provide excellent employee engagement opportunities to companies.

Companies can volunteer for Dress for Success Pittsburgh for team building and to show that they support what Dress for Success does and the community at large. Mallory said for those interested in hosting a mobile event or for those who know someone in need of our services should contact pittsburgh@dressforsuccess.org.
