Bringing the Complete Wine Experience to the Pittsburgh Area

Winery owner Sharon Klay and her husband John became interested in winemaking in the 1970s while living in New York and began researching and selecting almost 100 varieties of grapes that grow in cool climate conditions. Once they relocated to Pittsburgh, they began searching for the perfect vineyard site and eventually purchased a 215-acre farm in Chalk Hill. Sharon took the 1,000 vines on the property to up to 14,000 vines as John developed a successful cardiothoracic surgery practice in the area. Christian W. Klay Winery, named after the Klays’ son Christian, opened in 1997 bringing the first commercial winery to Fayette County. The winery offers guests a range of special entertaining events and offers informative and educational tours, venues for private events, wine tasting, and six shopping locations to ensure customers receive the full wine experience. They also play a big role in their community by hosting annual benefits for various non-profit organizations, including Fayette Friends of Animals. Connect with Christian W.
