An experienced diversity professional, lawyer and health care executive, Robert A. James serves as the Supplier Diversity Program Director at Highmark Health, a Pittsburgh-based national health and wellness organization and the second largest integrated delivery and financing system in America.

During his professional career, Mr. James practiced law for more than twenty years, concentrating on matters related to public finance and health care, and representing the interests of federal, state and private sector clients and employers.

Mr. James serves on the Executive Committee for the Governor Tom Wolf’s Advisory Council on Diversity, Inclusion and Small Business Opportunities, Vice Chair for the Women’s Business Enterprise Council (WBEC), and is a member of the National Certification Committee for Diversity:IN.

For his efforts in supplier diversity, he has been a recipient of numerous awards including the Eastern Minority Supplier Development Council’s (EMSDC) 2019 Corporate Forerunner Award, DiversityPlus Magazine’s Top 30 Champion of Diversity Award in 2018, EMSDC’s 2017 Corporate Advocate of the Year Award, EMSDC’s 2017 Regional Corporation of the Year Award, Pittsburgh Courier’s 2017 Men of Excellence Award, and the 2016 WBEC’s Shining Star Award.

Mr. James completed his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center, his dual Master of Business Administration and Master of Health Administration degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston College. Mr. James is currently enrolled in the inaugural cohort of The Advanced Leadership Initiative Fellowship at Carnegie Mellon.
